SofaDeck for Mac
One download for every Mac running macOS 11 Big Sur or later, on Apple silicon or Intel. Signed with our Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple.

Install on a Mac
- Open SofaDeck-1.0.2-mac.dmg from your Downloads folder and drag SofaDeck onto the Applications folder in the window that appears.
- Open SofaDeck from Applications (or Spotlight). macOS may say it was downloaded from the internet — click Open. Because it's notarized, there's no "unidentified developer" block.
- SofaDeck lives in the menu bar (top right, a four-square icon) — there's no Dock icon. Its settings page opens in your browser with the pairing QR code.
- Local Network: on macOS 15 and later, allow SofaDeck to find devices on your local network when asked, so your phone can reach it. If the firewall asks about incoming connections, click Allow.
- Accessibility (for hotkeys, typing, media keys and lock): the settings page shows an Open Accessibility settings button — turn SofaDeck on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. Apps, websites, volume and games work without it.
- Optional: turn on Open at login in SofaDeck's settings (or its menu-bar menu).
Check the download first if you like: in Terminal, shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/SofaDeck-1.0.2-mac.dmg must print the SHA-256 shown above.
Or install with Homebrew
brew install --cask stefanodixon-ux/tap/sofadeckFrom our own tap (github.com/stefanodixon-ux/homebrew-tap). The cask downloads the same notarized DMG from this site and checks its SHA-256. Newer Homebrew versions may ask you to trust the tap first; follow the command it prints.
System requirements
- PC: Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit).
- Mac: macOS 11 Big Sur or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.
- Phone or tablet: any current iPhone, iPad or Android device with a modern browser (Safari, Chrome, Edge, Samsung Internet or Firefox). Nothing to install.
- Network: the phone and PC on the same home network (Wi-Fi, or the PC wired to the same router). Guest networks that isolate devices from each other will block the connection.
- Voice: a phone browser with speech recognition — Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone both support it.
About the "Windows protected your PC" warning
When you run a newly released installer, Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may stop it with a blue "Windows protected your PC" box. SmartScreen judges downloads partly by reputation — how many people have already run that exact file without problems. A brand-new release from a small studio simply hasn't built that history yet, so the warning can appear even though nothing is wrong. It usually fades as more people install the same version.
More info
We'd rather you check than click through blindly. Before running the installer:
- Make sure you downloaded it from www.sofadeck.com (this page).
- Check its SHA-256 checksum matches the one in the table above (see below).
- Then click More info → Run anyway.
Diagram, simplified — the real dialog's wording depends on your Windows version.
How to check the SHA-256 checksum
Open PowerShell in your Downloads folder (Shift + right-click → "Open in Terminal") and run:
Get-FileHash .\SofaDeck-Setup-1.0.2-x64.exe -Algorithm SHA256The long string it prints must match the SHA-256 value listed for that file on this page, character for character (capital letters don't matter). If it doesn't match, don't run the file — delete it and email support@dixonappstudio.com.
Why not just sign it? Code-signing certificates help, but even signed apps can trigger SmartScreen until they build reputation. We publish checksums from day one so you never have to take our word for it.
After installing
SofaDeck starts in the system tray (the area by the clock — click the ^ arrow if you don't see it). Open it and it shows a QR code — scan it with your phone's camera and type the PIN shown on the PC. The setup guide walks through pairing, building your first page and turning on voice. When you want unlimited pages, macros and more devices, SofaDeck Pro is a one-time purchase.
Download questions
Is the SofaDeck download safe?
The installer on this page is built from Dixon App Studio's own source code and published only on sofadeck.com. Each file is listed with its SHA-256 checksum so you can confirm your copy is byte-for-byte the one we published before you run it.
Why does Windows say 'Windows protected your PC'?
That is Microsoft Defender SmartScreen. It warns about any new program that hasn't yet been downloaded by enough people to build a reputation with Microsoft, whether or not anything is wrong with it. After verifying the checksum you can click 'More info' and then 'Run anyway'.
Does SofaDeck need administrator rights?
Windows will ask for permission to install it, and Windows Firewall may ask whether SofaDeck can accept connections — allow it on Private networks (your home network) so your phone can reach it. You don't need to allow Public networks.
How do I uninstall it?
Quit SofaDeck from its tray icon, then go to Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps → SofaDeck → Uninstall. Phones that were paired simply stop connecting.
Is there a Mac version of SofaDeck?
Yes. SofaDeck for Mac runs on macOS 11 Big Sur or later, on Apple silicon or Intel. It's a disk image (.dmg) signed with Dixon App Studio's Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, downloaded from this page — it isn't in the Mac App Store, because the App Store sandbox doesn't let one app control others.
Why does my Mac ask for Accessibility permission?
macOS only lets an app press keys and type into other apps if you allow it under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. SofaDeck needs it for hotkeys, typing, media keys and lock; opening apps, websites, volume, sleep and games work without it. SofaDeck's settings page has a button that opens the right screen.
How do I uninstall SofaDeck on a Mac?
Click the SofaDeck icon in the menu bar → Quit SofaDeck, then drag SofaDeck from Applications to the Bin. Its settings live in ~/Library/Application Support/SofaDeck if you want to remove those too.
