Where it started
SofaDeck's creator, Stefano Dixon, runs a LaunchBox and Big Box arcade cabinet at home. Picking a game from a library of thousands with a controller is slow, and walking to a keyboard to type a title defeats the point of a couch setup. So he wrote a small phone remote: a web page served by the cabinet PC, with a search box, voice search and big buttons, reachable from any phone in the house without installing anything.
That remote got used every day — and the useful parts had nothing to do with arcades. Big buttons for the things you do constantly, a microphone for the things that are faster to say, and zero setup on the phone. SofaDeck is that idea turned into a proper Windows app anyone can install.
What we believe about tools like this
- Use the hardware people already own. Almost everyone has a phone with a better screen than any button deck.
- Local beats cloud for controlling your own PC. SofaDeck works on your network, with no account and no relay server.
- Pay once. The free version is useful on its own; Pro is a one-time license, not a subscription.
- Be honest in comparisons. Our guides compare SofaDeck with other tools factually, with prices we checked and dates on them. Sometimes another tool is the better fit, and we say so.
