- Pair any phone or tablet by scanning a QR code and typing the 6-digit PIN shown on the computer. No phone app, no account; each phone gets its own key you can remove at any time.
- Security: listens only on your home-network addresses, refuses requests from outside the local network, uses https with a local certificate limited to private addresses, and rate-limits every request. No telemetry.
Where SofaDeck came from
SofaDeck began as a private project: a phone remote with voice search for a LaunchBox and Big Box arcade cabinet, written so games could be picked from the couch without a keyboard. It worked well enough that the idea — a phone as a control deck for any Windows PC, with nothing to install on the phone — became this app. The story, and how to use SofaDeck with an arcade PC, is in the LaunchBox & Big Box guide.
Versioning
SofaDeck uses simple version numbers: 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 add features and fixes; 1.0.1-style releases are fixes only. Release notes call out anything that changes how pairing or security works, and new releases are announced here and on the download page.
